The Leprechaun is played by Jennifer Aniston

It's been said that Leprechaun is one of the all-time great "bad" horror movies. All of it from the ridiculous narrative to the over-the-top acting to the cringe-worthy visual effects is a disaster. It's a mystery how it all works, but the end result is an enjoyable and engaging movie. Jennifer Aniston, in her cinematic debut, fares surprisingly well, and Warwick Davis is fantastic as the leprechaun. Leprechaun is a great film to see if you like cheesy horror flicks. Avoid going in with the expectation of being afraid, since this film is more likely to make you chuckle than scream.

Warwick Davis's leprechaun performance is legendary. Leprechaun believes a family stole his gold in the film. He hunts them with cunning and power. The family searches for riches to appease the leprechaun and protect him from hurting them. Davis's terrifying performance makes Leprechaun a classic horror flick.

The Leprechaun film was intended to be more of a straight horror film, but Davis injected comedy into his performance.

Leprechaun movie plot:

J. D. Redding rents the O'Grady farmhouse with his daughter Tory ten years later. Nathan Murphy, his 10-year-old brother Alex, and their dimwitted pal Ozzie Jones are repainting the farmhouse. Ozzie misidentifies the leprechaun as a youngster when inspecting the basement. By removing the old clover, he frees the leprechaun. Leprechaun explains to Ozzie that he is an Irish shoemaker who immigrated to America for money. Ozzie finds a rainbow and chases it in pursuit of a pot of riches after failing to persuade others that he spotted a leprechaun. Alex follows Ozzie because he is concerned about him. A bag containing 100 gold coins arrives in front of Ozzie. Ozzie studies the treasures and eats a coin, believing that it would heal his brain. They keep it hidden in an old well.

J. D. Redding and his daughter Tory rent the O'Grady home ten years later. Nathan Murphy, Alex, 10, and Ozzie Jones help paint the home. Ozzie misidentifies the leprechaun's screams for help as a child. Using an ancient four-leaf clover, he frees the leprechaun. Ozzie learns from the leprechaun that he's an Irish shoemaker seeking his fortune in America. Ozzie sees a rainbow after failing to convince others he saw a leprechaun, hoping to find a pot of gold. Alex follows Ozzie because he could hurt himself. Before Ozzie, 100 gold coins appear magically. They conceal the riches in an ancient well after Ozzie swallows a coin to mend his brain.

At the farm, the leprechaun gets J. D. to walk into a trap by pretending to be a cat and biting and hurting his hand. After Tory and the others take the leprechaun to the hospital, he rides a tricycle. Alex and Ozzie go to a pawn shop to check the purity of the gold. The leprechaun kills the owner, Joe, for taking his gold and polishes Joe's shoes before running away. On his way back to the farm, the leprechaun builds himself a little go-kart and gets pulled over by a police officer for going too fast. The leprechaun chases the cop into the woods, where he ends up killing the cop. The leprechaun goes back to the farmhouse and looks for his treasure while shining every pair of shoes he sees. After dropping J.D. off at the hospital, the group heads back to the farmhouse. When Nathan goes outside to see what was taken, he gets hurt by a bear trap set by a leprechaun. Outside, the group attacks the leprechaun with rocks and clubs and beats him up.

When a gun is found in the (blog post) house, the leprechaun is shot repeatedly. They attempt to depart, but the leprechaun has wrecked the truck's engine. The leprechaun terrorizes the group until Ozzie reveals he and Alex found the treasure. Tory retrieves the satchel and gives it to the leprechaun. They head to the hospital, expecting the worst. As he checks his fortune, the leprechaun finds he's missing Ozzie's final cent. Ozzie tells them that O'Grady had a stroke and was taken to a nursing home. By throwing dirty shoes at the leprechaun, the group diverts his attention, and he's obliged to shine them as Tory drives away. Tory goes to the home to kill the leprechaun.

The leprechaun assumes the identity of O'Grady in the nursing home. As Tory flees, the leprechaun tosses O'Grady's bleeding body down the elevator shaft after having followed him to an elevator. Before passing away, O'Grady advises her that the only way to kill the leprechaun is with a four-leaf clover, which grows in plenty outside the property. Tory returns to the farmhouse in search of a clover, but she is attacked by the leprechaun and rescued by Nathan and Ozzie. The leprechaun is gravely injured while trying to retrieve the last gold coin, which Ozzie admits to consuming. Alex takes a four-leaf clover uncovered by Tory, connects it to a piece of chewing gum, and shoots it into the leprechaun's mouth, causing him to evaporate before he can kill Ozzie. Despite plunging down the well, the leprechaun's skeleton emerges and proclaims, "I want my gold." After Nathan pushes the leprechaun back into the well, he ignites both artifacts with gasoline. Tory is reconciled with her father, marries Nathan, and has a child when the police arrive. While the cops explore the well's debris, the leprechaun says he won't stop until he recovers every last piece of his fortune.

Leprechaun movie trivia

The producers wanted to make the movie scarier so that older people would want to see it. This meant that several scenes had to be reshot.

It's well-known that George Lucas had a role in casting Warwick Davis in Willow. What's less well-known is the reason why. According to reports, Davis was under contract with Lucas and couldn't feature in the film without the director's permission. As a consequence, he was granted a "special thanks" credit at the conclusion of the film. This little-known truth makes the movie much more appealing for horror movie enthusiasts. It's simply another example of Lucas's effect on popular culture.

The leprechaun was intended to flee to Ireland at first. But there was one problem: Warwick Davis, the Irish actor who played the leprechaun, did not have a work visa. Davis needed to secure a visa in three days to shoot the last sequence, which would have been impossible under normal conditions. Fortunately, Vice President Dan Quayle's administration was able to expedite the procedure, allowing Davis to complete shooting on time. Quayle earned a "special thanks" credit at the conclusion of the film for his services.

Warwick Davis was starting to regret making the movie, but many people rented it after Anniston became popular on TV, which led to a long series of sequels. It's said to have been one of Warwick's favorites.
